Things to know

  • Subtitles, data tracks, and original metadata are not preserved.

Frequently asked questions

What kind of WebM file is produced?

The output is a WebM with VP8 video and the first audio track encoded as Opus. Videos without an audio track can still be converted video-only.

Why does the conversion take so long?

The video is fully re-encoded inside your browser. Even for a video of the same length, it takes longer than an MP4 conversion, and it can take even longer depending on your device's performance.

What is the difference between the quality settings?

Standard, high, and maximum quality use progressively lower CRF values and higher bitrate caps, so quality improves and file size grows in that order.

Where can WebM files be played?

Most modern browsers, including Chrome, Firefox, and Edge, can play WebM. Some older devices and apps may not support it.

Is my video sent anywhere?

No. Your file never leaves your device. The conversion runs inside your browser and nothing is uploaded.
