Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between SRT and VTT?

SRT is a subtitle format widely used by video players, while VTT (WebVTT) is the standard format used by the video tag in web browsers. Their time notation and headers differ slightly.

Can I convert to the same format as the input?

No. SRT input can only be converted to VTT or TXT, and VTT input can only be converted to SRT or TXT.

Are subtitle styles and positioning preserved?

No. Only timings and dialogue text are converted — VTT styling and positioning settings, and some SRT formatting tags, are not preserved.

What remains when I extract to TXT?

Timestamps and cue numbers are removed, leaving only the dialogue text line by line. This is useful for preparing transcripts or translation work.

Are my subtitle files sent anywhere?

No. Your files never leave your device. Conversion runs inside your browser and nothing is uploaded.
