Frequently asked questions

Are the files and folder structure preserved?

Yes. The archive is unpacked and repackaged in the new format with the same paths. However, empty folders that contain no files may be omitted from the result.

Can I convert a password-protected ZIP?

No. Encrypted ZIP files can't be read, so they aren't supported. Please remove the password first and use the unprotected archive.

Why does the file size change after converting?

ZIP and TAR.GZ use different compression methods, so the same contents can produce different sizes. The contents themselves are preserved without any loss.

Can I use a single file with a .gz extension?

Yes. If it contains a TAR, it's unpacked and the whole thing is repackaged; if it's a single regular file, you get an archive containing one file named without the .gz extension.

Are my archives sent anywhere?

No. Your files never leave your device. The conversion runs inside your browser and nothing is uploaded.
